Supporting People with Intellectual Disability Experiencing Mental Health Issues/Disorders Workshop

The Community Living Association & WWILD SVP Association are offering a training workshop for professionals, support workers and social work/psychology and human services students who are interested in improving their knowledge and skills in supporting people with intellectual and learning disabilities experiencing mental health issues and disorders.  The aim of the workshop is to improve people’s understanding of the lived experience of intellectual disabilities and mental health disorders/ issues, and appropriate support of these people experiencing dual disability.  It utilises the bio-psycho-social and  community-based mental health model to support people experiencing dual disability.

 Topics covered include:

   – Developing knowledge of the lived experience of Intellectual Impairment/Disability
– Appropriate communication when supporting people with intellectual disabilities
– The experience of mental illness for People with Intellectual Disabilities
– Appropriate community mental health approaches when supporting people with dual disability in terms of prevention, early intervention, crisis response and recovery.
– Discussion on an appropriate group work model.

The workshops will be held in Brisbane and Logan on the following dates:

Monday 19th March 2018 – Brisbane
Time: 9am – 3pm
Venue:  WWILD – 211 Hudson Rd Wooloowin.
Cost: $90 per person (exclu. GST)

Monday 18th June 2018 – Logan area
Time: 12.15pm – 5pm
Venue: 26 Wilbur St, Logan Central QLD 4114
Cost: $90 per person (exclu. GST)

Morning tea and a light lunch will be provided.

Everyone who is interested is welcome. This is also an endorsed CPD event for Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) members.
