What to do these School Holidays!
December 27, 2019 Bespoke Lifestyles

The Summer school holidays are finally here, and as much as we love the holiday season, it’s often tricky, as a parent, to keep your kids entertained during the school holidays. Sometimes this obstacle may be made even more challenging when your child or children are living with disabilities. That’s why we’ve listed some great options for you and your kids below:

Uniting Care

If you are the parent or guardian of a young person with a disability, the chances are that you’ll feel a bit anxious about putting them in vacation care during the school holidays. However, Uniting Care specialises in holiday care for kids with a range of disabilities and offers one-on-one attention if necessary. Their activities range from cooking and sports to sensory play and water play to community outings and themed days, so your son or daughter is sure never to be bored.

“Our activities are fun, engaging and educational. We provide a caring and secure environment where each child can develop their physical, intellectual, language, social, emotional and life skills. We aim for each child to become a competent and confident individual.”- Uniting Care

The vacation care at Uniting Care runs through the entire Christmas/Summer holidays except for the week between Christmas and New Year and is available to children between the ages of 5 to 18.

Football For All Program

Football For All is an inclusive program run by Brisbane City Football Club every Saturday for children with a range of abilities.

“The Brisbane City FC ‘Football For All’ program allows players of all abilities to play football and focuses on the development of motor skills, social interaction and of course, fun!”

This program is usually run every Saturday, but they are now running holiday clinics. The holiday program is for boys and girls aged 6-12 years old, is suited for children of any level of skill or ability and is focused on creating a fun, positive and safe environment for kids.

Barney’s Place

If you’re trying to organise a trip away from the city this holiday season, Barney’s Place might be exactly what you’re looking for! Their motto is “Holiday home with a heart”, and they even won the ‘Inclusive Community Champion’ award. This beautiful resort is located on the Gold Coast and strives to create an accessible holiday experience for everyone. With complete wheelchair access, partnerships with a range of local disability services and a wealth of information on nearby attractions and excursions for people of all abilities they truly do mean it when they say they “have everything you need to make your holiday experience an amazing and relaxing getaway”.
